Police Rangers

Police Rangers is open to everyone and you don't have to want to become a police officer to join. If you are between the ages 12 and 17 years then you are eligible to join.

As a Police Ranger your training is made up of core modules and elective modules. Core modules include:

  • Ranger qualities
  • Drill
  • Navigation
  • Radio communications
  • First aid
  • Physical training
  • Bushcraft and survival training
  • Planning and command
  • Training development
  • Unit administration
  • Leadership

Elective modules can be more adventurous training or learning more advanced skills. Elective modules can equate to 30% of the total training for the first year of ranger service.

Elective modules can include:

  • Abseiling and roping techniques
  • Advanced communications
  • Boat safety
  • Advanced rescue techniques
  • Computer support skills
  • Counter disaster skills
  • Sea search and rescue techniques
  • Driver education

Police Rangers are expected to wear a uniform, which is blue for Metropolitan units and khaki for country units.

As with most cadet types, police rangers works on a rank structure. On joining you will become a Probationary Ranger. Promotion through the ranks is based on merit and examinations.

And as with all the cadet types, being involved with the police rangers is a chance to have some serious fun, while learning new skills and gaining valuable experience.
