St Johns Ambulance Cadets

The St John Ambulance Australia cadet division is open to young people aged between 12 and 17 years. (Younger children aged between 8 and 10 years are also eligible to join St John Ambulance as junior members, however, this is separate to the Cadets WA program.)

The cadet movement encourages a positive attitude towards putting into practice behaviour based on the Cadet Promise to Serve, and the Cadet Code of Chivalry, in the interests of the individual and the community.

In addition to basic first aid training offered to cadets the training program includes fostering leadership and encouraging physical and mental development by promoting public service and the spirit of adventure. Cadets are also encouraged to become proficient in any of 31 activities (Proficiency Badges) and participate in camps, sports and other activities.

The program of a typical cadet division includes:

  • First-aid
  • Family care
  • Proficiency badge training
  • Activities
  • Camps and excursions
  • Public duties
  • Leadership
  • Instructional technique
